Hardcover. Condizione: Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Very Good. 1st Edition. There were at least eight titles in the Red Randall Series by R. Sidney Bowen. The author had been a pilot in World War I, so he brought a sense of verisimilitude to his stories of aeronautical adventure. Bowen also authored the "Dave Dawson War Adventure Series" "Red Randall Over Tokyo" takes place, of course, in the Pacific Theatre of the Second World War. Red and his side-kick, Jimmy Joyce, who had acted heroically at Pearl Harbor, are sent on a perilous secret mission to contact a United States Intelligence Agent working in Japan. The agent has information vital to the American forces in the Pacific. The action takes the two heroes from Australia to the coast of China, where they meet up with General Chan, the head of a group of Chinese Guerrillas fighting the Japanese. Through a clever trap, the two Americans are captured by the Japanese and imprisoned. How they escape and complete their mission is at the core of their adventure. Plenty of aerial combat in this book . some of the escapades are hair-raising. The young boys back in America, who were the primary readership, avidly ate up these patriotic adventure stories. STATUS : OP PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This is a book that was made under wartime restrictions on the use of paper, and thus was necessarily constructed of an inferior paper that has become very browned. Other than that the wear is normal as given in our report below. Trade hardcover; Has a black-and-white line drawing as frontispiece; 208 pages plus two pages of the publisher's promotional sample from another title in the series; approximately 5 " x 7 3/8" (12mo); textured green boards with title, etc lettered in black on spine and front cover; top edge dyed drab; pictorial end-papers, printed in red, depict aerial combat; color-pictorial dust-jacket depicts an American bomber being attacked by Japanese Zero fighters - the rear panel has the publisher's list of various boy's adventure series ("Air Combat Stories") CONDITION -- NEAR VERY GOOD -- This is a previously owned book that remains clean and presentable with the following particulars noted : EXTERIOR - Compression to spine extremities; mild edge wear to boards- vague spotting or smudging to front, else clean. Top text-block edge a bit rubbed, else toned but clean. BINDING - Somewhat shaken, else as solid as can be hoped for - no leaves are detached or loose INTERIOR - End-papers are clean. Paper, as explained above is unavoidably heavily toned (browned) else clean and presentable throughout. DUST-JACKET - GOOD PLUS -- A small scratch displays on the front panel; smudging and scattered spotting to rear panel; edge wear including nicking, chipping and a bit of loss to head of front spine fold and small splitting to foot of front flap fold, else clean and presentable - the book displays nicely under protective mylar cover.
