A reproduction of an article by J J C Bradfield, the chief engineer for Sydney Harbour Bridge, which first appeared in the journal, The Commonwealth Engineer, in March 1932 regarding the history of the construction of the bridge and the engineering challenges which had to be overcome, with some technical drawings and construction diagrams.

John Job Crew Bradfield (1867-1943) was the Australian engineer who helped to conceive of, and then supervise, the design and construction of the Sydney Harbour Bridge. He was involved in constructing other major Australian infrastructure projects including Sydney's Underground Railway and Brisbane's Story Bridge. This 1930s booklet, illustrated with numerous sepia-tone photographic illustrations and one full page colour illustration, The Great Bridge by Moonlight, by John Charles Allcot (1888-1973, tells Bradfield's story of the creating the Bridge from figment to reality. Internal references and illustrations indicate this pamphlet was probably published in 1930. One of the illustrations is an artist's impression of how the bridge might be illuminated 'on its opening night in 1931'. The pamphlet describes, both pictorially and in text, the twin engineering feats of the construction of the bridge and the new city railway.
