This book provides an insightful exploration into the historical landscape of turn-of-the-century politics in New York, with a particular focus on the role of finance in shaping the city's political climate. The author traces the rise of powerful figures in the financial world, such as Charles Wainwright, who used their wealth to influence elections and shape the course of urban development. Through the captivating narrative of fictional characters like the ambitious politician Richard Horrigan and the idealistic young woman Dallas Wainwright, the book delves into the machinations of political power, the intricacies of financial maneuverings, and the impact of personal relationships on the outcome of both. It illuminates the ways in which political power, money, and personal ambition intertwine, and how these factors continue to shape the landscape of modern politics.
