Important traité d'un des canonistes et civilistes français les plus réputés du XVIe siècle, Pierre Rebuffe (Montpellier, 1487 - Paris, 1557), dont la portée de l'oeuvre a été remise en lumière par la thèse plus récente de Philippe Fabry. Notre édition regroupe des textes et commentaires essentiels pour étudier la conceptualisation des relations concordataires entre l'Etat et le Saint-Siège, notamment dans le contexte du pontificat de Paul III (1534-1549), le pape du Concile de Trente . Pierre Rebuffe a été en France le tenant d'une conception "légaliste" et "gallicane". La première partie porte sur les matières bénéficiales, affaires toujours très sensibles entre les deux pouvoirs. Suivent en pagination continue les bulles papales et traités de référence commentés "In caena Domini" (1536), "Jejuniorum et supplicationum pro pace" (1543), les "Additiones in regulas cancellarias", la "Practica cancellariae apostolicae" de Barchin, "Provinciale omnium ecclesiarum cathedralium universis orbis". Le "Tractatus concordatorum", qui est le texte fondateur, commenté par Pierre Rebuffe, du concordat de Bologne entre Léon X et François 1er, s'ouvre, en pagination continue (485-789), par une page de titre indépendante (ex typographia Matthaei le Blanc, Parisiis, 1622). L'ensemble se termine, avec une page de titre propre (Ex typographia Matthaei le Blanc, Parisiis, 1623, pp. 791 à 833), par l'approche plus théocratique du chanoine d'Augsbourg Georgius Branden dans son commentaire du concordat germanique de 1448 entre le pape Nicols V et l'Empereur Frédéric III de Habsbourg.
