From the preface: "The greatly increased size of classes graduated during the decade comprised in this volume has added many more entries here than in any previous edition -- over 5700 Moreover, this volume notes the records of our graduates during World War II -- a period during which changes in all aspects of a graduate's career, including station, position, and grade (permanent and temporary), occurred much more frequently than ever before."
