Both hardcover, H 32.75cm x L 25.75cm, bound in original slender well scuffed black leather spines and rubbed dark brown cloth boards; board corners worn. Red ink stamps for New York music importer C. Breusing scattered amongst bottom margins of various leaves of both books. Breusing operated in New York from 1844 to 1864 (but u…sually with a dual imprint of partner Kerksieg) so both book should date from that period. Sheets in each book have distinct plate impressions. Both acquired from the same antebellum Columbus, Mississippi estate. BOOK #1. Gilt stamped spine title as OPERA FRIEND 1-10 FLUTE but with no formal title page provided. 38 pages total (but with each arrangement separately paged). Front board slightly bowed and has several small patches of surface chips to cloth at top left corner. Some splitting at heads and heels of front and rear hinges but binding remains firm; mostly light but occasionally mild foxing to leaves. A good copy. Single-sided logo sheet for Nashville, Tennessee Brandon Printing Company laid-in but with long trimming to top half of right edge. Features ten musical scores all arranged for flute: No. 1 "La Sonnambula" by Vincenzo Bellini; " No. 2 "Il Pirata" by Vincenzo Bellini; No. 3 "L'Elisir d'Amore" by Gaetano Donizetti; No. 4 "Luerezia Borgia" by Gaetano Donizetti; No. 5 "Lucia di Lammermoor" by Gaetano Donizetti; No. 6 "Il Bravo" (Der Junge Opernfreund) by Leopold Jansa; No. 7 "Belisario" (Der Junge Opernfreund) by Leopold Jansa; No. 8 "I Puritani" (Der Junge Opernfreund) by Leopold Jansa; No. 9 (Der Junge Opernfreund) by Leopold Jansa; and No. 10 "La Straniera" (Der Junge Opernfreund) by Vincenzo Bellini-Leopold Jansa. BOOK #2. Gilt stamped spine title as OPERA FRIEND 11-20 PIANO with title pages for each of the book's ten arrangements as DER JUNGE OPERNFREUND. AUSGEWAHLTE MELODIEN FUR DIE FLOTE MIT BEGLEITUNG DES PIANO-FORTE VON LEOPOLD JANSA. with handwritten ink numbers and undated Wien [Vienna] imprints of Tobias Haslinger and aforementioned Breusing stamps. 79 pages total (but with each arrangement separately paged). Ink spots at front free endpaper's bottom right; 2.5cm tear to surface paper near head of rear hinge but binding is solid; last four leaves boldly creased at their top corners; several other leaves have milder shallow creases at their top corners' light to occasionally mild foxing to pages. A very good- copy. Features ten musical scores arranged for pianoforte as follows: No. 11 "Donizetti. Les Martyrs;" No. 12 "Bellini. Beatrice di Tenda;" No. 13 "Donizetti.
