Der Franziskaner Caspar Liebler, Verfasser mehrerer seinen Orden betreffender Schriften, war Beichtvater des Fürstabts von Fulda, Placidus von Droste. - - - Ich habe von einem Geschichtswerk zu sprechen, das seiner Zeit in mehreren Ausgaben und Übersetzungen verbreitet war und namentlich im katholischen Deutschland unbedingt dafür galt, für die Zeit von 1618 bis 1674 die rechte Geschichtsquelle zu sein. Es ist die von Adolph Brachel begonnene, von Christian Adolph Thulden und später von Heinrich Brewer fortgesetzte Historia nostri temporis [bzw. Historia universalis rerum notabilium]. Alle drei waren kölnische Priester und das Werk erschien in dem seit 1648 begründeten Verlag des jüngeren Kinches" (J.G. Droysen, Die Schlacht von Warschau. 1656. IN: Abhandlungen der philologisch-historischen Classe der Königlich-Sächsischen Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften. Bd.4, 1865, S. 27). Nach Brachels Tod 1652 setzte Thülden die von diesem in 2 Bänden bis 1652 fortgeführte Erzählung in einer neuen Ausgabe (1656) mit einem dritten Theil (fort) ." (Droysen). Schon über den Titel des Grundwerks Brachels, dem sich in den folgenden 30 Jahren Dutzende anderer Publikationen anlagerten, herrscht bibliographische Unsicherheit: ADB 3, 232 nennt es Historia aut verius succincta epitome historiae annorum " oder Epitome suae historiae" mit dem Erscheinungsjahr 1650 beide Titelvarianten existieren nicht im KVK bzw. VD17. Tatsächlich erschien die deutsche Erstausgabe von Brachels Universalgeschichte 1650 u.d.T. Kriegs unnd Fridens unserer zeiten History", die lateinische Ausgabe 1652 u.d.T. Historia sui temporis rerum bello et pace gestarum" und alle Angaben über sie sind mit Vorsicht zu genießen, denn die auf dem Titelblatt genannten beigefügten Werke sind in unterschiedlicher Art und Weise angebunden oder fehlen teilweise sogar." (VD17 23:684033F) Außerdem enthält die Ausgabe von 1652 bereits Texte Thüldens, die als Tractatus politico-historici" bis 1681 in 8 Teilen erscheinen sollten. Die entsprechende Angabe in ADB, dass Brachel im Jahre 1649 im Verein mit Thuldenus und Brewer bei F. Kinkius den Tractatus historico-politicus" heraus(gab)" ist deshalb ebenso falsch wie wie der nicht erkannte Plural der Tractatus", die nicht politicus, sondern politici heissen müssen. Grund für diese verwirrenden Verhältnisse ist das Ineinanderfließen von mindesten vier. …
