Algauw ontwikkelt zich een stormachtige romance tussen beiden. Waldemar meent dat Marianne de enige vrouw in zijn leven is die Waarheid net zo weet te waarderen als hijzelf. Maar hen is slechts weinig tijd gegund. Als Marianne hoort dat ze bloedkanker heeft en terminaal is, blijkt ze dit bericht nogal stoïcijns op te nemen.
