Widgery, and like him was commissioned to illustrated s…everal books, including a sumptuous edition of the Exmoor classic romantic thriller Lorna Doone (1911). Brian Le Messurier, Dartmoor Artists, page 52, " He painted in both oils and watercolours, but is best known as a watercolourist. Latterly he favoured the lichen-covered rock or boulder in the foreground ".
