Little is known of Brooks' life but what can be gleaned from his copious writings; born in 1608 and educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, by 1648, he was preaching at St. Thomas Apostle's in London, becoming of enough note to preach to the House of Commons in that year; within four years he had moved to St. Margaret's, where this book notes his tenure.
