"There are several issues dominant in current critical writing about art which reveal themselves in Robert Houle?s work - the function of the artist/theorist; spirituality in art; deconstruction and reconstruction; the search for authenticity; border cultures and mediation - amongst others. For more than ten years, Robert Houle?s work has been an advance notice of these textual deliberations. Each of the essays in this publication covers some of these same issues, but each essay adds a layer of consideration to Houle?s work. Shirley Madill as curator of the exhibition addresses social and political determinants in Robert Houle?s art, while Clara Hargittay?s comments deal with artistic and personal biography. The dynamism of cultures and ethnic identities as reflected in Houle?s art are part of Jennifer Brown's analysis. Gerald McMaster contributes the bio/autobiographical perspective of a colleague and also artist/curator of First Nations heritage." - Carol Phillips in her acknowledgement.

The author, a pioneer in early childhood education, believed that learning to read should follow the same natural process as learning to speak. The Jingle Primer employs a sequence of jingles, rhymes, and folk stories that engage children's natural inclination for rhythm and melody, making the learning process both enjoyable and effective. This method has been used successfully for generations, instilling a love for reading and language in young minds. The book's insights into the psychology of child development and the art of teaching make it an invaluable resource for educators, parents, and anyone interested in fostering a lifelong passion for reading. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Single Issue Magazine. Condizione: Very Good. Various (illustratore). First Edition. New York: The Butterick Publishing Company, 1925. September, 1925. Cover from a painting by F.Z. Hueston. Folio, wrappers, 84 pp. Light soiling, previous owner's signature at top edge. Very good for this, otherwise really quite better. See scans. Large, "bedsheet" size periodical, at a turning point in its history as a fashion bellwether here in this issue. Fashion sketches are flappery and elongated, as they would indeed also be with the full advent of its art deco period in ensuing years, but this cover is prior to the unique Helen Dryden covers period, and the art and editing is not yet fully awash in deco mindset. In addition to the fashion, coooking and homemaking pages, though, there is serious fiction and full vintage illustration of it here, including Zona Gale's "A Thief in the Night", Irving Bacheller's "The Secret of Being Happily Married", Margaret Culkin Banning's "The Fortune Hunter", "The Weakest Link", by University of Michigan sports legend Fielding H. Yost, and Dixie Willson's "Little Texas". Some of the celebrated artists for these works include Clara Elsene Peck, Joseph Simont, Gerald Leake and Paul Meylan. A tour de force in the fiction & illustration department - and that isn't even the strong point for this Butterick publication, which is a living timeline in the history of American fashion. Nice.
