Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Near Fine. 1st Edition. First Edition (Number Line to 1). Signed and inscribed ('For Marty and Harriet with affection, Larry Brown, March 1999') on the first front end paper. This is a rather rare signature. I saw only one other. You can see the covers of the book in the photographs provided. It is perfectly clean, spotless. It has one imperfection, a bump/crease off the top edge of the front cover (see photo). The covers are otherwise in excellent condition. The interior of the book looks pretty much perfect. I didn't see any soiling. I didn't see any wear. There aren't any markings or attachments. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. The book is also very solidly bound, without issue. There are eight pages of black-and-white photographs. The dust jacket is pretty close to perfect. It is spotless. It is NOT price-clipped. There are no tears. There is a slight amount of crinkling at the spine ends. I will fit the jacket with a protective cover after the photographs have been scanned. 'Living Hungry in America is the compelling saga of the dozens of prominent physicians who traveled across America to uncover the tragedy of hunger in the world's richest nation. Led by J. Larry Brown of the Harvard School of Public Health, they entered the lives and homes of hundreds of hungry families.' Dr. Brown directs the national Center on Hunger and Poverty, located within the Heller School for Social Policy and Management at Brandeis University, where he holds the title of Distinguished Scientist. Formerly on the faculty of the Harvard School of Public Health, Brown chaired the Physician Task Force on Hunger in America, leading a team of prominent medical leaders on field investigations into half the states in the nation during the 1980s. Their work drew sustained national media attention, and led Congress to take steps to address the growing problem of hunger. Brown is the immediate past chairman of the board of Oxfam America, and served as Assistant Director of Peace Corps/VISTA under President Carter. He also chaired the Medical Task Force of USA for Africa/Hands Across America. Dr. Brown is the author of numerous articles in both lay and scientific journals, including Scientific American and The Encyclopaedia Britannica Medical and Health Annual. He is the author of several books including Living Hungry in America. Inscribed by Author(s).

The Jayhawks success in 2007-2008 has been credited to total team effort and the inspiring leadership of head coach Bill Self. During his relatively short head coaching career, Self has established himself as one of college basketball's best by leading Oral Roberts to new frontiers, guiding Tulsa to its best season in school history, turning Illinois into a Big Ten powerhouse and now taking Kansas from a perennially great program to the best in the nation. In Bill Self's first authorized book: BILL SELF: AT HOME IN THE PHOG, Self and those who know him best offer an inside look at his journey into becoming one of the game's most respected and most sought-after coaches. Self tells how he achieved his dream of not only becoming a head coach, but also how he realized the pinnacle - leading the Jayhawks to a national title. He shares minute-by-minute details of the contest that sent KU to the national title game". Signed by Bill Self. First Printing of the First Edition. Hardcover. Hardcover. Condizione: Good. vi, 140 p. : ill. ; 24 cm. ; OCLC: 5616032 ; LC: TP358; Dewey: 662/.669 ; paper wrappers ; "Alcohol is a replenishable energy source, made from nearly all organically grown crops. The grain used is better livestock feed after alcohol is distilled from it that it was before. It also burns clean and helps insure an ecologically safe environment. After initially reading Brown's manuscript my curiosity was aroused as to the capabilities of alcohol as a motor fuel. Although enthused, I was still apprehensive to a large degree. Upon arriving home that evening, I went directly to my old faithful, gasoline powered lawnmower and proceeded to empty the fuel tank and carburetor of gasoline. The only alcohol available was a bottle of 70% isopropyl rubbing alcohol from the medicine cabinet. After emptying the contents into the fuel tank I adjusted the carburetor according to Brown's directions. Five pulls on the rope and it was running. After a bit more fine tuning of the carburetor, I mowed my lawn. It works! Son-of-a-gun!" ; G. Book.
