Außerdem lernen die Teilnehmerinnen und Teilnehmer in konkreten Arbeitsschritten spezifische Fertigkeiten für einen angemesseneren Umgang mit ihren Emotionen und zur Steuerung ihres Verhaltens. Die Alltagsnähe des Emotionstrainings ist das ganz große Plus dieses Ansatzes. Neben einem ProblemlöSetraining werden auch Fertigkeiten wie das Essverhalten und die Freizeitgestaltung unter die Lupe genommen und neue Verhaltensweisen eingeübt. Ein weiterer Vorteil: Das Programm kann ohne langjährige therapeutische Ausbildung eingeSetzt werden. Das Programm gliedert sich in drei Stufen: 1. Die Krankheit erkennen und annehmen: Insbesondere soll erkannt werden, welche Gefühle und Verhaltensweisen mit der Krankheit in Verbindung stehen. 2. Fertigkeitstraining zum Umgang mit Emotionen: Erlernt werden fünf Basisfertigkeiten zur Bewältigung der kognitiven und emotionalen Auswirkungen der Erkrankung. 3. Verhaltenstraining: Erlernen von Verhaltensfertigkeiten, die u.a. eine bessere Kooperation mit dem sozialen Umfeld ermöglichen. Das Manual bezieht Familienangehörige und Freunde ein. Gemeinsam bilden sie das "Helferteam", das die von der Borderline-Persönlichkeitsstörung Betroffenen dabei unterstützt, die neu erworbenen Fertigkeiten anzuwenden. In den USA wird das Programm von Nancee Blum und ihren Kollegen in Kliniken und ambulant eingeSetzt und weist sehr gute Ergebnisse auf. Dr. Ewald Rahn, stellvertr. Ärztlicher Direktor und Borderline-Experte und Oberärztin Ursula Herrmann haben das Programm überSetzt, bearbeitet und angepasst.
