Serving in the 77th Highland Regiment, Kirk was captured by Shawnee warriors in the abortive raid on Fort Duquesne in 1758 during the Forbes Expedition. After being adopted by the tribe, Kirk escaped and rejoined his regiment. He recounts his role in a raid with Rogers' Rangers, expeditions to Montreal and Detroit, battles of Signal Hill and Bushy Run, etc. Accounts of the local geography and wild life are also included.
