Small ink note on front flyleaf stating this copy was a gift, on December 28, 1992, from Paul C. Bucy's secretary Rose Lotz. "Bucy became a member of the editorial…board of the Journal of Neurosurgery, which had been inaugurated in 1944. Later, he served as chairman of the board, and from 1961 until he retired in 1972 he was director of publications for the journal. After retiring as publisher, Bucy felt that the increasing number of neurosurgeons and consequent rise in the number of papers indicated the need for another journal in the field. So he and his longtime secretary and associate, Rose Lotz, began publication of Surgical Neurology. They continued to edit and publish the journal after moving the office to Tryon, North Carolina, the Bucys' new home. Under Bucy's editorship, Surgical Neurology thrived. Aided only by an editorial board whom he had personally invited to help him review papers, and by the skillful Ms. Lotz, Bucy wrote most of the editorials himself, as well as the editorial comments concerning some of the papers included in the journal" ("A Tribute to Paul Bucy", in Surgical Neurology, vol. 25, 1986, pp. 315-316.).
