Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book presents the 19th-century research of Bunsen and Roscoe, revealing their groundbreaking findings on the chemical effects of light. Through meticulous experimentation, the authors established the concept of photochemical equivalence, demonstrating that the chemical action of light is proportional to its intensity and duration. Their work laid the foundation for understanding the nature of photochemical reactions, challenging the prevailing belief at the time that light acted as a catalyst without being consumed. The book delves into the fundamental principles of photochemistry, examining the factors that influence the rate of chemical reactions in the presence of light. Bunsen and Roscoe's pioneering research not only advanced the field of chemistry but also contributed to the development of photography, spectroscopy, and other areas of science that rely on the interaction of light with matter. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Aggiungi al carrelloPaperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the relationship between chemical and optical extinction in a wide range of substances. The author acknowledges that many bodies reflect a notable proportion of the light which falls on them. This book builds on earlier work to demonstrate that the amount of light absorbed by these substances is directly proportional to the intensity of the light falling upon them. The author has also investigated the phenomenon of the extinction of light as it passes through various media, and has found that the rate of extinction is also proportional to the intensity of the light. These findings have important implications for our understanding of the nature of light and the interaction of light with matter. In this book, the author meticulously describes the results of extensive experimentation, laying a solid foundation for further advancements in the areas of photochemistry and the interaction of light and matter. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.

Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Robert Bunsen and Henry Enfield Roscoe, "The Photo-Chemical Researches" series, Parts 1-3 published in the Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society of London in 1857, London, Taylor and Francis, vol 147. First appearance in English of this important series of papers that appeared in the "Annalen der Physik" as "Photochemische Untersuchungen" in 6 parts, 1855-1862. Presented here are Part I, 1857: "Measurement of the Chemical Action of Light", 1857, pp 355-380. Part II, 1857: "Phenomena of Photo-Chemical Induction", pp 381-402. Part III, 1857: "Optical and Chemical Extinction of the Chemically Active Rays", pp 601-620. Newly and beautifully rebound in half calf and marbled boards, withraised bands, decorated dentelles, and a red leather spine label. The binding is new. Pagination: iv, (vii), 906pp, with 33 plates (some folding) with plates 12, 13, and 14 bound in the text and not in the plate section?all plates are present. Condition: there is some foxing to the plates but in general the text is very clean and bright and crisp. There are a number of blindstamped ovals from the former owner, the Royal College of Surgeons, sprinkled throughout the volume, as well as on half the plates. Again, these are blind stamped and without color, except for a rubber stamp on the title page. Very nice copy. Also bound with George Boole, "On the Comparison of Transcendents, with Certain Applications to the Theory of Definite Integrals" pp. 745-803. Michael Faraday, (Bakerian Lecture) "Experimental Relations of Gold (and other metals) to Light." John Tyndall "On the Structure and Motion of Glaciers"; and many others, not the least of which are 7(!) papers by Arthur Cayley. Also a delightful paper by William Rankine "On the Stability of Loose Earth". 714.3.

First appearance in English of a classic paper in the investigations of chemical reactions produced by lightrays. Their joined work - from 1855-59 - founded scientific photochemistry, by determining the phenomena of induction, deduction and extinction. They found that the beginning of light reaction takes place at first very slowly and that the velocity increases gradually until it attains a constant value, observing also that steam accelerates the action and that air retards it. They also gave proofs of the "Law of Reciprocity.
