Bien complet des 9 belles grandes planches gravées représentant les principaux instruments topographiques : niveaux à bulle d'air et à lunette de Chézy et de Lenoir, instruments pour les visées, mires, équerres, etc. Les descriptions des instruments sont accompagnées des méthodes de leur usage. Aux pages 177 et suivantes se trouve un "Vocabulaire explicatif de quelques expressions employées dans cet ouvrage". À l'article "Ingénieurs en instruments de mathématiques" l'auteur donne la liste et l'adresse des "fabricateurs" qui ont le plus de réputation et qu'il recommande plus spécialement : Baradelle, Meurand, Lenoir, Nébel, Férat, Charot, Bellet, Richer et Jecker. Pierre Busson-Descars (1764-1825) était ingénieur des Ponts et Chaussées. Son autre ouvrage, Traité du nivellement, publié chez Bodoni en 1813, est considéré comme l'un des chefs-d'oeuvre de ce fameux imprimeur. Bon exemplaire non rogné et intégralement non coupé, ayant conservé sa couverture d'origine de papier à la cuve brun.
