Condizione: Fine. First (only) printing. An anti-Copperhead broadside, a single large sheet printed on one side in four columns, two on each side of a halfway vertical fold, with supplemental fold marks probably to fold the broadside down to mailing size. Compiles pro-Union sentiments by leading politicians and military men who belonged to the Democratic Party of that day, rather than to the Republican Party of Lincoln. The Democratic Party held a convention in Chicago in 1864, at which Clement Vallandingham, leader of the Copperhead antiwar faction, was present. The broadside was meant to counter the anti-Lincoln and antiwar agitation of the Copperheads by juxtaposing them to true Democrats. Incidentally, readers of steampunk may recognize Vallandingham as the drunkard President of the rump United States in a world where the Confederacy won out. Notable signers of this broadside include Thomas Meagher and Benjamin Butler. Butler, in particular, became a strong supporter of Black political rights in Reconstruction. Rare.
