Plate 13, Vol VI. This carriage has the profile of a Brougham on initial appearance but with a folding leather head, which makes it a Landaulet. They were popular for use by professionals such as doctors and could be used in fine or inclement weather. Landaulets are a light weight carriage and can be pulled by a single horse or a pair of horses. Numbered 'Plate 13, Vol. VI' upper right, for Rudolph Ackermann's 'Repository of Arts' periodical, published from 1809-1829. Hand colored engraving, sheet approx. 5¾ x 9". Sheet trimmed. Plate 3, Vol XI. A barouche was a four-wheeled carriage with two facing seats, the forward facing seat having a collapsible hood. It had a driver?s box seat in front and could be pulled by two or four horses. The barouche was the preferred carriage for aristocratic ladies (it was an expensive vehicle) during good weather when the hood could be pushed down.
