Peu courant ouvrage d'histoire naturelle à visée pédagogique très joliment illustré de douze lithographies rehaussées à l'époque et partiellement gommées. Il s'agit d'une réédition, sous un titre nouveau et dont le contenu fut largement remanié, de l'Introduction familière à la Science de la Nature du pédagogue de la fin du XVIIIe siècle, Arnaud Berquin, donnée par Julien-Caboche Demerville qui signe l'introduction et l'avertissement de l'éditeur. Le présent ouvrage vaut pour ces illustrations de Bataille dont une belle scène de "Leçon de géographie" illustrant la pédagogue-institutrice et ses deux élèves devant un globe terrestre, mais aussi des scènes animées représentant divers plantes et animaux dont éléphant, tigre, lion, girafe, gazelle, etc. Bel exemplaire dans son cartonnage de l'éditeur.
