"Alexander Trocchi (1925-1984) was a Scottish author and poet. He is known for his controversial novels, which often dealt with taboo topics such as drug addiction and sex…. Trocchi was a leading figure in the literary movement known as the Beat Generation, and was associated with writers such as William S. Burroughs and Jack Kerouac. Trocchi's most famous novel is "Cain's Book" (1960), which is semi-autobiographical and describes the life of a heroin addict in New York City. He also wrote the novel "Young Adam" (1954), which was adapted into a film in 2003, and the novella "The Holy Man" (1969). In addition to his writing, Trocchi was also involved in the underground drug culture and was a member of the avant-garde artistic community in Paris in the 1950s. He later moved to the United States, where he became a key figure in the countercultural scene in New York City.
