Hardcover. Condizione: new. Hardcover. Arno Fischer (1927- 2011) holds an important place in the history of German photography of the 20th century. During his career he was working across the photographic genres: he shot fashion models on the streets of Eastern European cities as well as ordinary citizens and their everyday live…s in the Eastern Bloc. He travelled to Equatorial Guinea, India, the Soviet Union and the United States with his camera in hand. When not traversing the streets Fischer was an active member of DIREKT, a group founded in East Berlin in 1965, which significantly influenced the diversification of East Germany's visual culture in the 1970s and 1980s. Together with his wife, the photographer Sibylle Bergemann, Arno Fischer also maintained contacts with international photographers. Colleagues as Robert Frank, Henri Cartier-Bresson, and Rene Burri were always happy to visit them in their apartment on Schiffbauerdamm. As a lecturer, Fischer also mentored students, first at the Hochschule fue r Grafik und Buchkunst Leipzig and later, after the fall of the Wall, at the Ostkreuzschule fue r Fotografie und Gestaltung. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardback. Condizione: New. Behind Closed Doors presents the unusual collection of contemporary art housed in the Lichtenstein Turm in Coburg, Germany. The Stahlberg Collection, which has been expanded steadily since the 1980s, comprises installations, paintings, photographs, sculptures, videos, and works on paper by German and i…nternational artists. Kept largely behind closed doors-the same doors that kept Ulrich von Lichtenstein prisoner for 36 years, after his affair with the wife of Duke Johann Casimir was discovered in 1597-the Stahlberg Collection will now be opened to the public. This book presents 55 works of art selected and described by the art historian and curator Candice M. Hamelin. It provides profound insights into the hitherto unknown collection of Angelika and Fritz Stahlberg.Artists: Valérie Belin, Isaac Julien, Alicja Kwade, Mohau Modisakeng, Muntean/Rosenblum, Erwin Olaf, Jaehun Park, Neo Rauch, Kehinde Wiley, Sylvie Zijlmans et. al.Text in English and German.Image creditsBettina Rheims, Rose, c'est Paris, La jongleuse, Tour du Palais de justice, côté quai des Orfèvres, mars 2009, gelatin silver print, 122 x 88 cm, © Bettina Rheims, courtesy Fonds de Dotation de l'Institut pour la PhotographiePieter Hugo, Abdulai Yahaya, Agbogbloshie Market, Accra, Ghana, 2010, from the series Permanent Error, C-print, 98 x 98 cm, © Pieter Hugo. Buch. Condizione: Neu. Neuware - Berlin 1945-2000 A Photographic Subject' explores how German and international photographers alike photographed Berlin between the immediate postwar years and the end of the twentieth century. Curator and art historian Candice M. Hamelin selected exemplary works by more than twenty photographers.… The book, which is published to accompany a major exhibition at the Reinbeckhallen in Berlin, opens with black-and-white photographs of Berlin in ruins and concludes with images of Berlin's urban development projects after the fall of the Berlin Wall that are often in color and taken with exposure times of up to several years. Images that belong to the genres of street, subjective, architectural, conceptual, portrait, and experimental photography can be found between these two sections. In dialogue with each other, the images in 'Berlin1945-2000 A Photographic Subject' underscore the immense social, cultural, and political changes the city underwent and, at the same time, the diverse photographic practices and tendencies that developed in Berlin over the course of fifty-five years. A PHOTOGRAPHIC SUBJECT explores how German and international photographers alike photographed Berlin between the immediate postwar years and the end of the twentieth century.
