Über den Verfasser ist wenig in Erfahrung zu bringen. Er veröffentlichte 1839/40 die erste Gesamtausgabe des früh verstorbenen schwäbischen Dichters Wilhelm Waiblinger, für die der Herausgeber… der historisch-kritischen Ausgabe, Hans Königer, 1980 nur wenige anerkennende Worte fand (siehe I, S. 485). Seine "Vorerinnerungen" beginnt der damals in Stuttgart tätige Buchhändler von Canitz mit dem Hinweis: "Es war im October des Jahres 1827, als ich meine Reise nach Stuttgart machte, um meinen Freund und Universitätscameraden Wilhelm Hauff dort zu besuchen" (S. 5). Am 18. November starb Hauff in Stuttgart. Seine erfolgreichen zweibändigen Satansmemoiren waren 1826/27 dort erschienen. Einen unechten dritten Teil brachte der lit.-politische Abenteurer Wit gen. von Dörring (1800-1863) aus Hamburg ebenfalls bei den Brüdern Franckh 1829 in Stuttgart heraus. ?
