Carl Bodmer (illustratore). Journals of the Expedition Under the Command of Captains Lewis and Clark, Volume I of II. Published by The Heritage Press, New York, 1962. Edited by Nicholas Biddle with an introduction by John Bakeless. Illustrated with watercolors and drawings by Carl Bodmer and other contemporary artists. Includes fold-out map. A beautifully produced mid-century Heritage Press edition of the landmark account of the Lewis and Clark expedition (1804-1806), documenting the journey from the Missouri River to the Pacific Ocean "by order of the government of the United States." This volume presents the classic narrative in an attractive illustrated format, enhanced by period-inspired artwork and scholarly editorial framing. This copy is clean, crisp, and unmarked throughout, with strong interior condition and tight binding. Fold-out map is present. Endpapers show mild age toning where joined to the text block, and page edges are lightly speckled as issued. The spine shows slight discoloration that may be due to natural material variation or age, but overall presentation remains very attractive. A near fine copy aside from minor exterior age effects.

Aggiungi al carrelloCarl Bodmer et al (illustratore). This is the complete set of The Journals of the Expedition Under the Command of Capts Lewis & Clarke, the government-ordered expedition (1804-1806) to cross the newly acquired western portion of the United States after the Louisiana Purchase. This edition was published by the Heritage Press in 1962. It is two volumes, 11.5" x 8", 231 pages and 547 pages--the two weigh 5 1/2 lbs. Both volumes are heavily illustrated and volume two includes a large fold-out copy of the original map. The books originally came in a slipcase, which I don't have. While there is some discoloration to the spines, and a few marks on the covers, there is no evidence that anyone ever read the books. They are in pristine condition.
