Soft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Berge founded the literary magazine CENTER, and was part of the creative renaissance of the 1960s in New York City. The author's first novel is a loosely fictionalized account of a scandal that cost Berge teaching jobs and support from the publishing industry. "[Her characters] have so many dimensions that the author has to use a kaleidoscope to show them all, yet she does it brilliantly. Compellingly interesting." Publishers Weekly. "Berge invests her stories with insinuating pliancy of tone, writing in a way that almost makes it seem she's imitating her characters rather than creating them. She invites suspicion, encourages vertigo--dry, acerbic, they overwhelm with quotidian detail which gradually turns surreal.part industrial sculpture, part Oriental sheen." Village Voice.
