Hardcover. Condizione: Fine. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. Lee Hart (illustratore). First Edition. 119 p. The book is in fine condition and the DJ has numerous small tears and has been price cut. " Elton Miles, professor at Sul Ross State Teachers College, at Alpine, Texas learned of Carpenter's manuscript, read it, and made a careful transcription of it. For the book he has provided an introduction that fills in the details of Carpenter's life and completes this picture of a true cowman of the plains." From the DJ: "No. 7" - as Carpenter, the youngest of seven children "7" called himself - was born in Missouri and moved west with his family." Eventually, 7 with his elder brother settled in Texas in 1872. "From the times he made his first cattle drive, he wanted no other life but that of herding longhorns across the free and flat grasslands of the West. Between the years 1862 and 1900 as t cowhand and later as trail boss, Lucky 7 traveled all the fames cattle trails or Texas, Oklahoma, New Mexico, Kansas, Colorado, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona. In 1900, after a full and active life, he retired to his own rance west of the Pecos. As the years passed he watched the fences go up and the free range disappeared. Thus this book came to be written.

From the time he made his first cattle drive, he wanted no other life but that of herding longhorns across the free and flat grasslands of the West. His schooling was the trail, the campfire, the saddle. In 1900, after a full and active life, he retired to his own ranch west of the Pecos.
