Aggiungi al carrelloNo Binding. Condizione: Collectible-Very Good. Original Wing Tips magazine. Printed in black ink on white paper. Pages laid in loose. Front cover shows an illustration of a man trying to figure out his income tax. 10 1/2" x 13 3/4." Eight pages, complete. Black-and-white illustrations, complete. Magazine is clean and intact over…all but there is slight rubbing to front and back, a small purple streak on back, light age toning throughout, vertical wrinkles (appear as thin bars on front cover), splits at head and tail of spine (largest measuring about 1"), and a few small chips along edges (mostly limited to margins). A Very Good copy. The March 15, 1946 issue of Wing Tips magazine. "Published every Friday by and for the military personnel of the field [Mather Field]." The magazine includes news from Mather Field and other stories and articles that are relevant to military personnel at Mather. The following are some of the features in this issue: "Editorial" [about fish being the casualties of underwater atomic bomb testing], "Chaplain," "Mather's Red Cross Drive Totals Over $1200 In First Week," "General Spatz Outlines Plans for New 'Air Force-In-Being," "German PW's Here From Camp Kohler," "Baseball Sign-Up To Start Next Tuesday," "Squadron A," "Squadron C," "CO's Secretary Hawaii-Bound," "Brazilian Cadets Here for Training," "Theater," and "Laff It Off!" [jokes and comics section]. Mather Field was the predecessor of Mather Air Force Base (AFB). During World War II, Mather AFB was a noted United States air base and training school for pilots, navigators, observers, and bombardiers. Under the Base Realignment and Closure Commission (BRAC), Mather AFB was decommissioned in 1993. However, the former air base reopened in 1995 as the Sacramento Mather Airport, which is still open to this day.

Aggiungi al carrelloStapled Wraps. Condizione: Very Good. First Edition. New York: Ronald L. Smith, 1955. First edition. September, 1955 / Issue number 11 under the name Inside and Science Fiction Advertiser (which is the last name for the famed sci-fi / fantasy fanzine, which was also published under the earlier names "Fantasy Advertiser" and "Sci…ence Fiction Advertiser", though the primary focus was always Science Fiction). Ron Smith became the Editor/Publisher with the November, 1954 issue, which was also the first under this name. Octavo, stapled illustrated wraps, 60 pp. About Very Good; pages 2&3 (i.e., one leaf) is loose but of course present; several small chips, one crease at back cover, small prior owner's sticker at top left page seven. Otherwise, this would be a Near Fine copy. This September / 1955 issue was published as Ron Smith was really starting to come into his own as the editor, a talent which would manifest itself better the ensuing year. Plenty inside to enjoy; a cover by the now famed Frank Kelly Freas, interior fanzine art by Lin Carter, Neil Austin, Cindy (Smith), and Jack Gaughan - no slouches themselves, and several cartoonists, all ably managed by Art Editor Cindy Smith. The articles and reviews. the meat of the fanzine, are a tour de force: Ron Smith, Lin Carter, Robert Lowndes, Larry Shaw, H.L. Gold, Sam Moskowitz, Robert Bloch, Dave Foley, Randall Garrett, Robert Silverberg, Dave Mason, and Bill Edgerton all contributing - see scan of contents page. Poetry, ads and other bites of interest, as well, of course. For the collector. Please review scans. l-pr1. Frank Kelly Freas (cover); Lin Carter, Neil Austin, Cindy (Smith), Jack Gaughan. (illustratore).

Aggiungi al carrelloSoft cover. Condizione: Near Fine. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A very rare first edition of the third issue of the reborn Granta, champion of new writing, which grew to be one of the best known, most widely read and longest enduring of a notoriously ephemeral species, the literary magazine. Includes two chapters from Salman Rushdie'…s Midnight's Children (the only pre-publication of any part of that book). Grantas 1,2 and 3 are now almost always seen only as reprints with a new cover, in a design which became the Granta house style for all issues subsequent to this one. Other writers who were or later became well known, contributed to Granta 3 (though none of them were as celebrated or controversial as Rushdie) included Angela Carter, Alan Sillitoe, Russell Hoban, Emma Tenant and Lorna Sage. This copy of Granta 3 is quite well preserved despite its 42 years. However, the ochre paper wrap is a little tarnished in places; there is a tiny tear at the bottom of the front cover where it meets the spine and there is a previous resale price written in pencil on the first inside page. See five photos of this magazine and do ask for more if that would help.
