Hardcover. Condizione: Fair. No Jacket. 1st Edition. This photo-filled copy, a fourth printing, has a spine that has seen better days (please see photos) but a surprisingly tight binding. There is a pocket inside the back cover indicating that it might be ex-library but there are no other labels or markings. There are discolorations and signs of wear, which I have captured in the photos. From a description found online: "On the Washington Mall, On the northwest side of the Jackson statue, there s an ordinary-looking park bench. It comes with a nice story. The Park Bench Statesman sat here. Bernard Mannes Baruch made his fortune on Wall Street by the turn of the 20th century at the age of 30. Known for his financial acumen and thoughtful insight, he was an advisor to several presidents. The presidential connection, spanning three wars WWI, WWII and the Korean War began with his friendship with Woodrow Wilson, and continued through Harding, Hoover and Franklin Roosevelt. During Roosevelt s New Deal, he helped shape policy as a member of Roosevelt s Brain Trust. It is said Baruch did his best thinking on a park bench, both here and in New York, where he was often seen discussing issues with ordinary people. This bench was a favorite. As the story goes, Baruch disliked being chauffeured to White House meetings. He preferred to sit on this bench, enjoying the park surroundings and talking to passers by as he waited for a light flashed from the White House signaling it was his turn to meet with the president.".
