Very attractive book in heavy paper stock with nice illustrations in color and b & w throughout. Not much about Jane Austen's personality can be gleaned from her works.It is from her letters, from the evidence of the friends and relations, and above all from a knowledge of the kind of life led and ideas held by the society she was born into, that we are to know her.

First edition thus, hardcover, has a mild lean to the binding, bumps to the spine ends and cover corners, and a few brief pen marks to the text. Overall, a solid, Near Very Good copy in an unclipped, Very Good dust jacket, which has bumps with mild creasing to the spine ends and corners, slight rubbing to the covers, some edge wear with a very short tear to the head of the front, and a previous seller's bar code sticker to the tail of the back. The jacket is wrapped in Mylar.
