Eustachio Celebrino was born in the late fifteenth century in Udine, in the Friuli region of the Venetian empire, and later claimed to have studied medicine and philosophy at the University of Padua, though details o…f his early life remain uncertain. After a turbulent youth that may have included legal troubles and years as a wandering scholar, he found steady work in the growing Italian printing industry, first in Perugia and then in Venice, producing woodcuts and correcting proofs for major printers. By the mid-1520s he shifted toward writing and editing vernacular pamphlets on popular subjects including household advice, medical remedies, poetic tales, and handwriting manuals such as Il modo di imparare di scrivere lettera mercantesca, reproduced here in facsimile.
