Soft Cover. Condizione: Good. First Edition Thus. 1973 at title page. Stated verso title page: "Imprimatur, Josesph F. Busch, Bishop of St. Cloud, July 23, 1935." A reprint of the original edition; complete and unabridged. White and yellow wraps, classic bold red cover titles, moderate cover, corner wear. Front cover features dy…namic designs of flames rising over striped yellow b.g. Pages very good. Several historical photographs. Saddle-stitch bind, good. Very good 1970's vintage printing. From back cover: "Describes the 23-day exorcism of a woman in Earling, Iowa in 1928, which has become the most famous in the U.S.A. Truly startling. Contains some of the best evidence on possession and exorcism that exists. Ties in with today's extraordinary interest in the subject. " After 23 Days' Battle in December, 1928, Devil Was Forced To Leave. A Soul-Stirring Account of Diabolical Possession - Woman Cursed by Her Own Father - Possessed from 16th Year till 40th Year. Includes a letter from J. D. Dundon M. D. addressed to Rev. Kapsner concerning the reality of this case and comment on interview conducted with Father Theophilus. Emma Schmidt (pseudonym Anna Ecklund) underwent this exorcism in Earling, Iowa and is one of the most well-documented cases in the history of demonic possession. It was a partial basis for the book and film The Exorcist. The priest who led this exorcism was Father Riesinger. Over 23 days in 1928, a Roman Catholic Capuchin named Theophilus Riesinger worked to exorcise demons from Emma Schmidt at the local Franciscan convent. During the exorcism Schmidt reportedly flew across the room, landed high above the door, and clung tightly to the wall. Despite attempts by church officials to keep the exorcism secret, townspeople soon began hearing strange noises coming from the convent as well as horrid odors. Finally, on December 23, the demons in Schmidt's body gave up after Father Riesinger commanded, "Depart, ye fiends of hell! Begone, Satan." Two pages at back of other intriguing titles wherever Catholic books are sold. Printed and bound in the United States of America. 48 pages. Insured post. Size: 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" Tall.
