No foxing in this copy. 111 pp Cyra McFadden, then a Mill Valley resident, wrote The Serial in 52 weekly installments (1975-76) for the Pacific Sun, a Marin County weekly which is reportedly the oldest continually published weekly in US. It is a satire about the trendy lifestyles of the affluent residents of Marin County. Cervenak, an established illustrator and graphic designer working primarily in newspapers was, at the time, an illustrator on staff at the Pacific Sun. In 1977, Alfred A. Knopf published all 52 episodes in this spiral bound 111-page book that sold for $4.95. The book was made into a 1980 movie called Serial starring Tuesday Weld and Martin Mull. McFadden continued writing in including a biweekly column for the San Francisco Examiner for six years, in the 1980s. Her 1986 meoir entitled Rain or Shine: A Family Memoir described her childhood growing up as the daughter of James C. "Cy" Taillon, a well-known rodeo announcer. The book was a finalist for the Pulitzer that year.
