Evidently published from a family-held manuscript - autobiography of Baptist clergyman Norvell Robertson, 1765-1855, born in Cumberland, Virginia and who m…arried Sarah Denby (Powell) Robertson, 1770-1842, in 1791. After serving in the Virginia State Militia during the American Revolution, Norvell Robertson migrated to Georgia and arrived in Mississippi circa 1818 initially residing near Pineville but later moving north of Old Williamsburg. Robertson children and further descendants resided in the Mississippi counties of Covington, Lawrence, Smith, Carroll, Clarke, and elsewhere.

This updated and revised edition from Blue Acorn Press has corrected spelling and punctuation, and divided the text into 20 chapters. Also added are 25 photographs, notes, maps and ill…ustrations, which were not part of the original 1925 publication. While this account chronicles the daily life in camp of one Confederate enlisted man, it also brings into focus nearly the entire history of his company and regiment on the march and in battles fought in Mississippi, Georgia and Alabama. 281pp., with notes, appendices, bibliography, index. Book is clean and tight, with no marking or soiling and bright pages. Previous owner's book plate on front pastedown. Dust Jacket has excellent even color and no nicks or tears, but does have a small water stain on front panel, and has now been covered with a mylar sleeve. A solid attractive copy.

Chambers started his Civil War service in Company F, 27th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry Volunteers and eventually in the Forty-Sixth Regiment, Mississippi Infantry, with post-war life in Hattiesburg, Mississippi where he died in 1916. His autobiographical journal runs inclusive from page 227-380 with a roster of officers on page 381, muster-roll on pages 382-385, and a list of deaths on page 386.
