Hardcover. Condizione: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. A handsome original 1925 juvenile Western adventure from Winston's Long Trail Series, following Hal Brent, Kent Sherwood and their companions into Mexico amid bandits, mysterious riders, treasure, ranches and border intrigue. The book belongs to the once-popular early-20th-century tradition of boys' adventure series fiction, but "Dale Wilkins" was actually a house pseudonym used by Josephine Chase, who also wrote juvenile series fiction under other names. This is particularly attractive in its original pictorial cloth binding, with a large front-board scene of two boys beside a campfire printed in green and a striking graduated yellow-to-orange background, while the spine carries a separate silhouette of a mounted rider. The title page credits the frontispiece to Wilson V. Chambers, an illustrator associated with a number of early juvenile and popular-fiction books, including titles in Margaret Vandercook's Ranch Girls series and other boys' adventure fiction. The copyright page states "Copyright, 1925, by The John C. Winston Company / Printed in U.S.A." with no later printing or additional copyright statement. Bibliographic and bookseller records consistently date this title to Winston's 1925 issue, and current records also identify 1925 copies as first editions. Very clean overall for a century-old juvenile series book. Original gray-green cloth remains attractive, with the pictorial front-board decoration retaining notably strong green, yellow and orange color. Moderate rubbing, scuffing and handling wear to boards, with wear at spine ends and corners; spine lettering remains readily legible. A few small light spots and abrasions are visible, including a small pale spot near the lower spine/front joint. Spine and binding are firm and strong. Interior is remarkably clean, with no ownership names, inscriptions or other markings observed. Pages show expected uniform age toning but remain supple and clean. Hinges are sound. No rips or tears observed. The terminal page is numbered 272, followed directly by the rear endpaper. Of bibliographic interest, there are no advertisements for other Long Trail books, Winston series, or publisher titles anywhere in the printed text of this copy. That absence is unusual enough for a 1920s juvenile series volume to merit noting. Frontispiece by Wilson V. Chambers (illustratore).…
