Thought to be one of the earliest examples of satire as a literary genre, these poems examine the Roman world of the Augustan era. The author explores Horace's life and influences, and analyses the Satires' themes, style, and language. This book is essential reading for students and scholars of literature, and lovers of satire, as it offers a comprehensive examination of Horace's seminal work and places it in its proper historical and literary context.
