Hardcover. Condizione: Near Fine. This set is complete through 1973. Three volumes were added later. Volumes 1 through 19 are included in this set.The Annals of America is not a narrative history. It is Encyclopaedia Britannica?s multi-volume collection of American primary sources, issued from Chicago beginning in 1968, with Mortimer J. Adler as editor-in-chief and Charles Van Doren among the editors. Later printings and supplements carried the set into the 1970s and 1980s.The original core is 18 chronological volumes, from 1493 to 1968, plus a two-volume Conspectus, Great Issues in American Life. Some sets grew past 20 volumes as later years were added. Each volume reprints speeches, laws, letters, essays, court opinions, and other documents, with short editorial notes rather than a continuous story. The point, in the spirit of Britannica?s Great Books, is to let the reader meet the sources in order.ABOUT THIS SET: Bound in matching clay blue cloth with blind debossed title on each cover. Silver foil lettering and lining on each numbered spine. Dual columned. Illustrated throughout with black and white photos. Each volume is indexed.
