Landes and Gordon Mountjoy Buck, to front free endpapers. $250. * Chitty's influential edition of the Commentaries was first published in London in 1826. He did not produce later editions; publishers reissued Chitty's work with sets of notes from other editors. The 1886 Lippincott edition is a reissue the edition originally issued in New York by W.E. Dean in 1832. William Henry Landes (1858-1931) was a lawyer and politician who served ten years as mayor of Staunton, Virginia and briefly as a member of the Virginia Senate. A graduate of the University of Virginia and it law school, Gordon Mountjoy Buck (1875-1970) was a prominent New York lawyer known for his work for railroads, most notably the Southern Pacific.
