Light toning to interiors, offsetting to margins of preliminaries and final leaves of text blocks, small tear and minor edgewear to Table of Descents, early owner signatures, W.H. Landes and Gordon Mountjoy Buck, to front free endpapers. $250. * Chitty's influential edition of the Commentaries was first published in London in 1826. He did not produce later editions; publishers reissued Chitty's work with sets of notes from other editors. The 1886 Lippincott edition is a reissue the edition originally issued in New York by W.E. Dean in 1832. William Henry Landes (1858-1931) was a lawyer and politician who served ten years as mayor of Staunton, Virginia and briefly as a member of the Virginia Senate. A graduate of the University of Virginia and it law school, Gordon Mountjoy Buck (1875-1970) was a prominent New York lawyer known for his work for railroads, most notably the Southern Pacific.
