Hardback. Condizione: New. A catalog raisonné of historical pieces of porcelain from China and Japan featuring photos and essays. When the famous Dutch art historian and connoisseur Frits Lugt (1884-1970) and his wife Jacoba Klever (1888-1969) decided to present their collections in the Hôtel Turgot in Paris, Chinese porcelain ranked among their priorities. They intended to give the French public an impression of Dutch Golden Age interiors, and a porcelain cabinet had traditionally been part of Dutch material culture. The result is a small but exquisite collection of high-quality Chinese porcelain from the sixteenth to the late eighteenth centuries. In Chinese and Japanese Porcelain in the Frits Lugt Collection, each of the 125 pieces is described in detail and placed in a scholarly context. Special attention is paid to iconography, inscriptions, and marks. A longer, informative essay elaborates on the history of the collection and shorter essays introduce each of the six sections into which the catalogue is chronologically divided. Every object has been photographed and reproduced from multiple angles, including the base.…

Hard Cover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition. Hardcover in dustwrapper. English text.Black cloth with gilt lettering to spine and front. in colour photo illustrated dustwrapper.304 pages.Well illustrated throughout.10 X 12 inches. The book is very good, the dustwrapper has rubbing to corners with some surface loss, and a closed tear to the edge of the rear panel of about 2.5 cms. The dustwrapper is in a clear paperlined protective jacket, and presents well, the aforementioned repair is not especially prominent. This the blurb from the dustwrapper:An enduring witness to Dutch-Japanese relations is Arita export porcelain made for the Dutch market in the 17th and 18th centuries. The Dutch East India Company (VOC) was instrumental in ordering and distributing a diversity of export wares. Private trade also played and important role. This resulted in the importation of large amounts of Japanese porcelain into The Netherlands, particularly during a period when Chinese porcelain was unavailable. These objects were assimilated into Dutch life and stimulated the interest in exotica from the Orient. While many of the exquisite pieces have been lost over time, numerous examples are still preserved in public and private collections in The Netherlands. In Fine and Curious, Dr. Jörg discusses the variety of export ware and the extraordinary pieces in those collections, many of which are published here for the first time. This survey offers a fascinating insight into a relatively unknown aspect of Dutch-Japanese interaction and is the first book of its kind devoted to giving an overall view of a country's collection in this field.".…
