Christopher Lehmpfuhl lehnt sich an die Tradition der Plein-Air-Malerei des Impressionismus an. E…r malt vor seinem Bildmotiv, unter freiem Himmel, im urbanen Raum und in der freien Natur, im In- sowie Ausland, häufig während seiner Malreisen. Er vollendet seine Bilder immer vor Ort, ob in der Natur oder in der Stadt, bei jeder Wetterlage (wiki) // Wichtige Elemente sind für Lehmpfuhl die Weite und das Licht - sie inspirieren und beflügeln ihn. Er wählt seine Motive aus dem Gefühl heraus, sie finden ihn, auch wenn er nicht bewusst danach sucht. Sobald er ein besonderes Licht spürt, will - ja muss - er malen. Von dieser Besessenheit zeugen zahlreiche in dieser aktuellen Ausstellung gezeigten Bilder: "Licht und Schatten am Ulmer Münster", eine "Fassade im Licht", aber auch der sanfte "Frühling am Bodensee". Ein besonders eindrückliches Beispiel ist schon allein des extrem hohen, schmalen Formats wegen der "Lichteinfall in Karlsruhe" - die Komposition erinnert an die alten Meister, die es verstanden, einzelne Partien ihrer Bilder wie von Scheinwerferlicht beleuchtet hervorzuheben. Auch in der Stadt Speyer hat Christopher Lehmpfuhl markante Silhouetten und lohnende Motive gefunden: Der graue "Springbrunnen am Dom" und - als augenfälliger Kontrast dazu - die blumengeschmückte "Maximilianstraße". Schon bald aberzieht es ihn wieder hinaus in die Natur: "Feldweg und Baum", "Sonniger Wald", "Leuchtende Wolken" oder der ungehinderte Blick über die Vogesen sind wunderschöne Beispiele seines Faibles für eindrückliche Landschaften und ihre Weite. "Ich versuche, eine zeitgemäße Form des expressiven Impressionismus zu entwickeln", erklärt Christopher Lehmpfuhl. Der 1972 in Berlin geborene Künstler, der auch die Studienjahre in seiner Stadt verbracht hat, erinnert sich gut an seine ersten jugendlichen Malausflüge, als er jeweils Farbpalette und Leinwand auf den Gepäckträger seines Fahrrads schnallte und auf der Suche nach Motiven durch die Straßen der Stadt fuhr. Heute lautet sein Credo: Weg von jedem Klischee! Er will jedes Motiv, jeden Blickwinkel aus seiner eigenen Sicht und Interpretation heraus festhalten, will das Gesehene und dessen Atmosphäre in seine eigene Malerei umwandeln.
