Late stage diagnosis, functional loss resulting in reduced Quality of Life, fear, stress, malnutrition and uncertainty throughout the cancer treatment experiences. Searching of biomarkers specific for high risk tumors in early stages is really essential. In the present study, we identified the prevalence of HNC was 45.2% underscoring an urgent need to better understand the biological bases of this type of cancer in this region. We chose to address this challenge by studying the role of antioxidative, immune markers, and XRCC1 DNA repair gene in HNC patients. Dietary protein supplementation to Head and Neck Cancer cases undergoing treatment had a beneficial effect by improving their nutrient intakes, anthropometric status, antioxidative and immune markers of the HNC patients. Cancer cases by offering good protection to normal cells, which may further reduce the risk of developing secondary cancers. CD44 appears to be a fair marker of HNC and to have potential diagnostic value, because its detection is easy in terms of final outcomes. 172 pp. Englisch.
