If you need a nice copy of this title, this is not it. Most if not all the leading edges of the text block show the tide line of a water stain and corresponding rippling of the pages. Light wear to the binding. A portrait Brer Rabbit gold-stamped on the front cover. A Christmas greeting in pencil from 1893 on the first blank end sheet. The book is complete, but because of the cosmetic issues outlined, it is sold as a reading/research copy.

The Complete Tales of Uncle Remus by Joel Chandler Harris is a collection of stories first published in the late 19th century, featuring the beloved character Uncle Remus, a wise and humorous African American storyteller. Set in the southern United States, the tales are told in the voice of Uncle Remus, who shares folklore and fables featuring anthropomorphized animals, most notably Br'er Rabbit, Br'er Fox, and Br'er Bear. These stories are rooted in African American oral traditions and were often used to teach moral lessons through the cleverness of the characters. The collection is noted for its use of dialect, which helps bring the characters to life and offers a window into Southern life at the time.
