Trade Paperback. Condizione: Very Good. First Paperback Edition. 268 Pages. Very light wear to cover edges and corners. One word previous owner's name on the title page. No other marks or stamps to tight book with flawless interior text pages. First published in Vienna in 1946. This paperback edition published in London in 2004. In this book Dr Frankl revolutionized psychotherapy with his theory of logotherapy. Viktor Frankl's work has being described as the most important contributions in the field of psychotherapy since the days of Freud, Adler and Jung. In The Doctor and the Soul Dr Frankl maintains that the individual's most important need is to find meaning in life and the frustration of this need results in neurosis, suffering and despair. A doctor's work lies in finding personal meaning in a patient's life, no matter how dismal the circumstances of the life. Dr Viktor Frankl was the leading figure of the Third Viennese School of Psychotherapy. He was born in Vienna in 1905 and on being freed from Dachau concentration camp found that his family had been almost entirely wiped out in the Holocaust. He went on to hold professorships at universities around the world, including Harvard University and the University of Vienna. Viktor Frankl survived three years in the concentration camps of Dachau and Auschwitz. On the basis of his experiences there, he went on to found a new school of psychotherapy, Logotherapy.…

Synopsis: Includes several pages of photographs."He served as Hitler's architect, the undisputed master of the German war machine, and the one responsible for conscripted foreign labor in the Third Reich. And, when Albert Speer was captured and sentenced at Nuremberg--after becoming the only defendant to plead guilty--he started keeping this secret diary, much of it on toilet paper. After 20 years of imprisonment, he found 25,000 of the smuggled pages waiting for him, and from those entries he shaped this deeply powerful document. "Albert Speer's book is a deeply moving document. It is also of extraordinary political and psychological interest.a must for anyone interested in psychological motivation of political action and the problem of guilt and repentance. But, beyond this it is so fascinatingly written that I could not put it down before I finished it.".…

Includes Chronological Table, Selective Bibliography, and Index. 22 black and white photographs follow page 152. Ludwig Reiners (born January 21, 1896 in Ratibor; ? August 10, 1957 in Munich) was a German businessman and writer. Reiners was the son of a cigar manufacturer. He passed his Abitur in 1914 at the high school in Ratibor. Then he took part in the First World War. He studied law and economics. In 1920 he received his doctorate with a thesis on the economic measures of the Munich Soviet Republic and was entitled Dr. jur. Dr. rer. pole. Then he began a career as a businessman in the position of stock exchange representative of Deutsche Bank, became an assistant director in heavy industry at Deutsche Werke AG, a timber trader in the Balkans as an authorized signatory of a Swiss timber company. Reiners was a member of the NSDAP during the Third Reich . During the Second World War and after the was a sales director of Richard Jung's yarn factory in Munich. In 1957 he died after a short, serious illness. Reiners grew up under the spell of Prussia as well as the Austro-Hungarian monarchy and its atmosphere, which he describes in his description of the prehistory and course of the First World War In The Lamps Went Out in Europe. The Lamps Went Out in Europe is a chronicle of the mistakes that led to the First World War and the defeat of the Central Powers and the dissolution of the German Empire. The annexation of Schlewsig-Holstein by Prussia was only the prelude to German unification, but even in taking this first step Bismarck had the entire world against him. England, France, Russia, and Austria opposed this action, but so did the German people, and so did King Wilhelm of Prussia. Bismarck first secured Russia's friendship by helping the Czar to suppress a Polish uprising. He then kept Napoleon III in check by dangling before him vague promises of territory in Belgium or the Rhineland, rightly calculated that he had nothing to fear from England because of Gladstone's indecisiveness, and lured Austria into the game on his own side. "The lamps are going out all over Europe, we shall not see them lit again in our life-time", British Foreign Secretary Sir Edward Grey remarked to a friend on the eve of the United Kingdom's entry into the First World War. First published in Grey's memoirs in 1925, the statement earned wide attention as an accurate perception of the First World War and its geopolitical and cultural consequences. In 1927, John Alfred Spender, editor of the Westminster Gazette until 1922, identified himself as the friend to whom Grey had spoken: I had two short talks with Grey during the "twelve days." I ran into him on the stairs of the Foreign Office on Saturday, August 1st [.] I saw him again late in the evening at his room at the Foreign Office on Monday, August 3rd, and it was to me he used the words which he has repeated in his book, "The lamps are going out all over Europe, and we shall not see them lit again in our lifetime." We were standing together at the window looking out into the sunset across St. James's Park, and the appearance of the first lights along the Mall suggested the thought. Grey's quotation has been used as a summation of the war in numerous historical works. The German author Ludwig Reiners (1896-1957) published an account of World War I entitled The lamps went out in Europe. Therein Grey's comment is followed by the assertion attributed to Otto von Bismarck: "The mistakes that have been committed in foreign policy are not, as a rule, apparent to the public until a generation afterwards." Samuel Hynes began his 1990 A War Imagined with a paragraph covering the quotation, referring to it as the best-known and most often quoted response to the beginning of the war. In 2014 Grey's words were the inspiration for part of the British commemoration of the centenary o.…
