Family album of Mabel Clark McLucas (1904-1985) who grew up in Rico, Colorado. The dates in this album span Mabel's life, from her childhood in the 1910s to old age in the 1980s. Most photos are from the 1910s to 1930s. Album includes 118 photos that measure between 2 ¼" x 2 ¼" and 5" x 6". Photos include gelatin silvers, RPPCs, b&w and color snaps, tintypes and cabinet cards, but almost all are gelatin silvers. Photos are corner mounted and most are annotated. Black cloth album covers measure 7" x 11 ½". Covers have light wear and soiling. Many photos are detached from corner mounts and there are approximately 20 photos missing. Some photos have moderate creasing and chipping. Overall good. This album depicts Mabel's life from the early childhood to her time as a grandparent. Mabel Clark grew up in Rico, Colorado and most of the photos are from her childhood and teenage years. There are many family portraits, mostly of children, which Mabel has expertly annotated. Mabel had a sense of humor with some of her captions, one reading "vacation daysthe hired man - me" with her as a teenager dressed in work clothes. The first four photographs in the album depict Mabel and fellow staff of "C. S. H." or the Colorado State Hospital, an institution for the mentally ill that opened in Pueblo, Colorado in 1879. There are some good shots of Rico and the surrounding mountains in the early 20th century. These include a couple views from a timber camp, a snowplow moving snow off the railroad track, some birdseye views of the town, the courthouse, the church, the schoolhouse, and the Dolores River. A handful of photos depict Mabel's husband Roy Murl McLucas in his childhood days. They were married in 1924 and their children, from chubby babies to adults, are also pictured in the album. A sweet family album with some good Colorado views.
