Armstrong, R& L stopped using a frontipiece in 1926 and subsequently removed the from earlier titles as they were reprinted. This copy has no frontispiece (and ne ver did), so we know it a later printing, probably from 1926, as the Roy J. Snell titles listed as advbertisement list his boks through the titles published that year. The cloth shows no wear, the hinges are solid and binding is square. Reprint circa 1930 listing 4 titles on the rear flap of the dust wrapper. This copy lacks the requisite illustrated endpapers and 8 pages of aerial acrobatics found at the rear of the first edition, which also has blue cloth and cover lettering stamped in gilt. There are no ads at the rear. The cloth shows only a hint of edgewear; the dust jacket has moderate edgewear with shallow chipping at the head and heel, and a 1" chip to the lower front panel at the spine. Former owner's info in ink to the front pastedown, with later pencil inscription to the ffe. Hinges solid; binding square. A clean, tight copy, with the wrapper now in mylar. The jacket art is not signed, but it is clearly Gretter's work. He became established at R&L in 1927 and worked there until moving to NY in 1932, when he began signing his work as "J. First Edition. 1929 ("Published, May, 1929"). Very Good in Very Good Dust Jacket. 12mo (7-3/4" tall x 5-3/8") hardcover, 369 pages (uncut on the fore and bottom edges). Black boards & binding w/ embossed gold lettering on front & spine, embossed gold design of a wagon train--2 horse men and 2 animal-drawn wagons--on the front bottom. Lettering on the spine is somewhat dulled, the spine head and tail are bumped w/ some light edge wear at the tale of the spine, areas of moderate edge wear on top and bottom of the boards. Pencil marks on ffep and the half title page + ink initials and date on a front end papers. End papers are illustrated w/ maps and are slightly yellowed near the hinges. Other slightly age-tanned papes are clean and firmly bound. The dj, now in a protective plastic cover, is in gold and black. Top and bottom 1-1/4" inches are gold w/ black silhouettes--i.e.--two men in dress attire flanking a well dressed woman, and a duel on the front, two well-dressed womnen w/ parasals a horse drawn carriage, and a wagon and horseman on the rear. Center black strip lists the title and author. Front flap, which is NOT price clipped describes the book while the rear flap lset some of the characters speak. The dj has light chipping at the head and tail of the spine and at the fore edge corners, but this is minimal and does not detract from the dj's attractiveness. "All the Brave Rifles" is a "romance of the days when . a gallant company of freemen won for Texas the bright star of independence" written by the author of "Aw Hell".…
