Er war General der Artillerie des französischen Königs. In der Schlacht von Luzzara stand er Prinz Eugen gegenüber. Prinz Eugen erkannte einen `ebenbürtigen Gegner`. Als Bonneval in Frankreich zum Tode verurteilt wurde setzte sich Prinz Eugen für seine Verwendung in der österreichischen Armee ein. Bonneval entkam und leistete hervorragende Dienste in den Türkenkriegen Prinz Eugens. Jahre später strebte Prinz Eugen ein Todesurteil gegen Bonneval an. Dies wurde durch den Kaiser verhindert. Bonneval mußte aber das Land verlassen. Schließlich ließ er sich im osmanischen Reich nieder, trat zum Islam über und wurde zu Humbaraci Ahmet Pascha. Er trug ganz wesentlich zur Erneuerung der osmanischen Artillerie bei. Aber auch dort konnte er das Vertrauen nicht auf Dauer gewinnen. Die letzten 6 Seiten des 3. Teils enthalten einen Werbeanhang des Verlages von Jean van Duren für 2 Publikationen, jeweils mit Leseprobe (" Idee de la Science Militaire" und "Idee de l`histoire de la vie et du regne de Louis le Grand").
