Trade Paperback. Condizione: Fine. First Edition Second Printing. 178 Pages. Plastic Comb Binding. No defects noted and interior text pages are faultless. This is the Oct 1994 Second edition of the Feb 1993 copyright. Limited to 1001 copies of each of the two editions. The Garden Club of Placitas was established in 1965 and gardening has been its central interest the club has supported many organizaitons. The proceeds from this book went to a drive to fund a new Placitas fire station. Las Placitas is located at the center of the San Antonio de Las Huertas Grant, seven miles east of Bernalillo. The altitude is sixty- one hundred feet. Its adobe houses follow the simplest lines of native architecture; they are scattered about promiscuously, with a narrow crooked lane zig-zagging about to reach the doors of most of them. This winding road is dotted with many fruit trees. Small orchards and vineyards flourish close to each house, and in cherry-blossom time Las Placitas is enchanting. The little Presbyterian mission, with its yard full of trees and lilac shrubs, stands on the lane, and further along up the hill on the plaza is the Catholic mission and the public school. Within a mile of the village on the north and east lie the crumbled ruins of the old walled town of Las Huertas (The Gardens) where the forefathers of these people lived and waged war against the marauding Indians almost two hundred years ago. One-half mile east of Las Placitas is the old Montezuma Mine of fact and legend. And there, also, is the village of Ojo de la Casa. On the southeast, stately and beautiful ridges of the Sandia Mountains hem in Las Placitas and pour out an abundance of pure, clear water upon it, from Los Huertas Creek. Off to the west is a far-flung mesa terminating in an exciting view where the Cabezon and the Valle Mountains are silhouetted against the western sky. Las Placitas is said to be built upon the ruins of a long forgotten Indian pueblo, and present reminders of such a vanished people are significant. Just to the north of the village is a reddish mountain with its upper surface deeply indented with Indian symbols. At the base of an escarpment of the Sandias, near where the highway enters the village from the west, is a tumbled ruin that was once a small round house with peep holes near the roof. According to all the older generation now living here, it was too small to have a bed in it, but it was good to hide in and pretend to shoot out at the enemy. They say that when their fathers came here, the place was covered with ruins, and everywhere they found potsherds and metates, manos, stone axes, obsidian points and beads. In 1934, when a new tank was being excavated in the mountains east of Las Placitas, they found what was believed to have been an old Indian burial ground. Here are a few of the names mentioned in this book: Mary Berummett, Rith Ives, Susan Jewell Dorothy Oden, Bonnie Stueber, Elaine Whitehorn and many more.

Newsprint, 11 1/2 x 17 in., 8 pp. From the front page, "This gathering celebrates the art, life, and spirit of Allen Ginsberg, 1926-1997. Allen's groundbreaking and visionary work inspired poets and activists worldwide for more than fifty years. Planet News celebrates Allen's utopian imagination, everpresent [sic] candor, and deep social commitment aimed at relieving human suffering." Within are poems by Ginsberg, details of a memorial at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, a biography, a sampling of "activist projects that Allen supported," a "concise bibliography," and photographs, among other contributions. Sanders and Rosenthal are listed as "co-chairpersons," with Eliot Katz, Brenda Coultas, Marc Nasdor, Greg Ruggiero, Anne Hemenway, Robert Cohen, Peter Hale, and Bill Morgan listed as the other members of the Planet News Committee. Very good plus. Folded once for distribution. Expected toning to the newsprint with a 1/2 in. closed tear affecting the final two leaves, below the fold. The final two leaves also show five small holes, two at the top and three at the bottom, along the left edge, which are present across all copies handled, suggesting they are inherent to the edition.
