Aggiungi al carrelloHardcover. Condizione: Very Good. Condizione sovraccoperta: Good. First Edition. Boston, Twayne Publishers, 1975 (first edition in English). Octavo, [vi], 193 pages. Tan cloth lettered in black on the spine; covers lightly rubbed; edges very slightly foxed; an excellent copy with the very good dustwrapper (unevenly tanned and a…little worn at the edges). Signed by the translator 'J.M. Coetzee | 1975' on the title page. Volume 7 in the Library of Netherlandic Literature series, edited by Egbert Krispyn. This is the first English translation of Emants' 1894 novel 'Een Nagelaten Bekentenis'. It is an 'altogether reshaped and remoulded novel that nevertheless retains the dark, neurotic diction of the original. By means of an originally contingent translation, one that modernized the original and was subsequently repeatedly reproduced and recontextualised in the wake of the rising prominence of its translator, Emants' novel has gradually found its way from the Dutch canon to a contemporary transnational scene' (TomToremans: 'The Transnational Rebirth of a Dutch Classic: J.M. Coetzee's Translation of Marcellus Emants' "Een nagelaten bekentenis"', in 'Journal of Dutch Literature', Volume 5, No. 1, December 2014). J.M. Coetzee is the first author to win the Booker Prize twice (in 1983 and 1999); he was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2003. Signed.
