Scarce classic study of the CHICAGO FIRE with numerous contemporary engravings from photographs taken on location. With the Scarce 4to foldout map of Chicago showing burnt area (slight 2" tear along one fold). Covers, corners, & upper cap rubbed with a 3" thin stain across the upper cover; all plates are present & have considerable browning; light foxing throughout as is typical. Overall, an important and very readable study of this enormously destructive historical catastrophe.
