Paperback. Condizione: New. Print on Demand. This book brings to light the complexities of streamflow measurement in northern Mississippi creeks, notably Pigeon Roost and Cuffawa Creeks. The author, an accomplished hydraulic engineer, presents a detailed analysis of two distinct flow patterns observed at five gaging stations along these creeks. These patterns, captured in what are termed 'discontinuous stage-discharge relationships', challenge the traditional understanding of streamflow behavior, where flow is assumed to be a continuous function of stage. The book uncovers the existence of 'dunes' (irregular sand formations) in the streambeds, which give rise to the discontinuous flow patterns. When these dunes are present, the flow encounters substantial resistance, resulting in a lower flow rate for a given water level. However, when the flow velocity increases sufficiently, the dunes are flattened, creating a smoother streambed with reduced resistance, leading to a sudden increase in flow rate. The author meticulously documents these transitions through streamflow measurements and skillful analysis. Beyond the practical implications for streamflow computation, this book provides valuable insights into the dynamic nature of sand-bed streams. It highlights the interplay between sediment transport, bed configuration, and flow patterns, contributing to a deeper understanding of fluvial geomorphology. The findings have important implications for flood control, sediment management, and the overall comprehension of river systems. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
