Paperback. Condizione: new. Paperback. Introducing a pioneer boy of America's Wild West. In 1916, when he was four years old, this boy's family homesteaded near Montana's Bighorn Canyon. The following year his mother died in childbirth. His widowed father was too busy trying to survive and support them to supervise him much. What ensued was the grandest time of his life. The main cast of characters in these memoirs includes cowboys and Indians, mountain men and mountain lions, schoolmarms, skunks and wild horses. There are near deaths and deaths and murders. There's rumor spreading, rage, jealousy, unrequited love and thievery. His father hunts and has 20 hounds. His uncle breaks horses he then sells to settlers and ranchers. In the midst of all this, to be where the action is, young Harold grows up playing hooky from school as much as possible. He frequently lives with other families. And what he loves to do most is roam the territory on his pony Little Joe, often venturing out for up to a month at a time, once he and his friend discover where there's always a hot meal and a warm bed for penniless pioneer boys, where "They was tickled to death to have you. Everybody was welcome. We'd just get a horse and take off."Here are true tales of the stuff American Spirit is made of. This item is printed on demand.
